Meade County Breaks Ground on New Road Department Building

By

After plans for a new Road Department Building had been talked about for about a decade, Meade County Government took a significant step to modernizing its facility. Meade County Judge/Executive Troy Kok hosted a special groundbreaking ceremony to officially kick off construction on the new facility, a project that promises to enhance local infrastructure and service delivery for decades to come.

As the regional hub for technical expertise, LTADD is proud to have provided the engineering services necessary to bring this project from vision to reality.

“For over 10 years, a new home for our Road Department has been a topic of discussion, and today we finally turn that talk into action,” Judge Kok said. “This facility is essential for the safety of our workers and the efficiency of our county services. We are grateful for LTADD’s engineering expertise, which was vital in helping us design a building that meets our needs today and allows for growth in the future.”

The new facility is designed to meet the growing needs of Meade County’s road maintenance and management. Spanning 15,000 square feet, the building will serve as a high-functioning headquarters for the men and women who keep our local transit routes safe.

Key features of the new facility include:

  • A dedicated Wash Bay to maintain the longevity of county equipment.
  • An expansive Shop Area for vehicle and machinery repairs.
  • Modern Office Spaces to streamline departmental administration.

Following a competitive bidding process, the project was awarded to Prodigy Construction for $2,607,000. Construction is now underway, with an estimated completion timeline of 12 months.

One of the core missions of LTADD is to provide our member governments with professional-grade technical support that might otherwise be out of reach. For this project, LTADD’s Engineering, Design & Mapping team handled the critical groundwork, ensuring the designs met all safety and functional requirements.

LTADD Engineering Director Charlie Allen was on-site for the groundbreaking, representing the team that worked behind the scenes to bring this project to life.

“It is rewarding to see a project of this magnitude move into the construction phase,” Charlie said. “Our team worked diligently to ensure the engineering and design specifications would provide Meade County with a durable, efficient space that supports the vital work of the Road Department. We value the trust Judge Kok and the Fiscal Court placed in us to help shepherd this project from the drawing board to the groundbreaking.”

Infrastructure projects like this are more than just bricks and mortar, they are investments in the safety and efficiency of our region. When the doors of the new Road Department building open next year, the citizens of Meade County will benefit from a more organized and resilient maintenance hub.

We look forward to seeing the progress over the next 12 months and remain committed to supporting Meade County and all our member governments in building a stronger Lincoln Trail region.
