Building a Healthier Lincoln Trail Region Together

On April 7, we join the World Health Organization in celebrating World Health Day. It’s a day to reflect on our collective health and, more importantly, to ensure that every individual in our community has the tools and support they need to thrive.
At LTADD, we believe that health isn’t just found in a doctor’s office, it’s built in our homes, our senior centers, and our neighborhoods. Serving Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, and Washington counties, LTADD is committed to providing health programming that supports our residents at every stage of life.
Here is a look at how we are bringing support that improves the health of residents in the Lincoln Trail region:
Empowering Our Seniors and Caregivers. Health and independence go hand-in-hand. Through our Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living, we provide essential services that keep our seniors safe, nourished, and connected.
Some of the ways we accomplish this is through our
- Nutrition Programs: We partner with Central Kentucky Community Action Council through local senior centers and Moms Meals to provide congregate and home-delivered meals, ensuring that seniors in our eight counties do not have to worry about where their next balanced meal is coming from.
- Family Caregiver Support: Caregiving is a rewarding but demanding role. We offer respite care, education, and supplemental services to help caregivers manage their own health while caring for loved ones.
- SHIP Counseling: Navigating Medicare and health insurance can be a headache. Our State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) counselors provide free, unbiased guidance to help seniors maximize their benefits.
Evidence-Based Wellness & Disease Prevention. We don’t just react to health issues, we work to prevent them. LTADD offers several programs designed to improve mobility and mental well-being:
- Tai Chi & Bingocize: These programs are more than just fun, they are scientifically proven to improve balance, reduce falls, and increase physical activity among older adults.
- Suicide Prevention & Mental Health: We are proud to share that our staff is QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) trained, and many are certified in ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training). We are committed to being a frontline resource for mental health for our clients.
Advocacy and Safety in Long-Term Care. Health also means being treated with dignity. Our Long-Term Care Ombudsman program advocates for residents in nursing homes and personal care homes, ensuring they receive the quality care and respect they deserve. We also provide Elder Abuse Prevention education to keep our most vulnerable citizens safe from harm.
Connecting the Dots through the ADRC. Sometimes the biggest barrier to remaining in the community is simply not knowing where to start. Our Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) serves as the “front door” to all our services. One phone call connects residents to information on:
- In-home services (homemaking and personal care).
- Resources to assist with medications and other needs.
- Transportation to medical appointments and senior centers.
Stand with us on this World Health Day. This year’s theme, “Together for health. Stand with science,” reminds us that our community is strongest when we work together. Whether it’s through a nutritionally balanced meal, a fall-prevention class, or helping a neighbor navigate their Medicare options, LTADD is here to ensure the Lincoln Trail region remains a healthy place to live, work, and grow.
