Caregiver Corner: Carly Gilkerson
Carly Gilkerson of LaRue County is a dedicated full-time caregiver for her son. For years, she provided care without financial support, often feeling the isolation and challenges that come with high-intensity caregiving.
Through her connection with LTADD Case Manager Mindy Grauerholz, Carly’s life has changed. Carly now receives respite care and other behavioral support from LTADD’s CASE Division to help manage her son’s care.
“LTADD is life changing for families like mine. I am finally bringing in an income after years of caregiving with no financial support. Respite care has even allowed me time out of the home for the first time in years. Caregiving is my life, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. But that doesn’t change how isolating, hard, and sad caregiving can be with the aggression we take, all with the complete understanding of how loving our kids are and how challenging their world is.”

The support LTADD provides Carly helps her rest assured her son is safe in her care regardless of his behaviors and that he is “loved, cared for, pushed and understood.”
