Program Spotlight: Long Term Care Ombudsman Program
LTADD partners with Catholic Charities to provide long term care ombudsman services to the
Lincoln Trail Region. A long-term care ombudsman serves as an advocate for residents, helping
ensure each resident has both a safe space and a high-quality living environment.
The long-term care ombudsman has a duty to investigate complaints, resolve care concerns,
and empower residents to understand and exercise their rights. If residents and their families
believe their concerns have not been adequately addressed by facility administration, the
ombudsman provides advocacy and assistance in resolving issues with the health care provider.
Your regional long term care ombudsman can also:
- Advocate for residents before governmental agencies and seek other legal remedies for protection.
- Support the development of resident and family councils to ensure residents have a voice within the facility.
- Provide information to families and the public on long term care services and resident rights.
- Educate the public on long term care issues and encourage participation in policy and advocacy.
- Advocate for changes to laws and regulations that strengthen residents’ health, safety, and welfare rights.
