History: Sonora is a southeastern Hardin County community on I-65, US 31W, and KY 84. It was established in the middle of the nineteenth century during construction of the Louisville and Nashville Road. The name may come from the Mexican home of a railroad worker. The Sonora Post Office opened in 1859. The population in 2010 was 513. A Buck Snort or Bucksnort Post Office operated in the same area in 1858 and 1859.
