History: A Virginian, Joseph Houston, settled in the area and received a land grant from the government in 1803. He laid out the town and named it Joeville. The population continued to grow, and in 1860; Joeville became the metropolis of Breckinridge County. Later, the name was changed to Cloverport by keelboat crews because of the clover that was so abundant on its banks. In 2004, the population was 1,262.
