History: Caneyville is a sixth class city, located 13 miles southwest of Leitchfield. Begun as a pioneer trading post just below the forks of Caney Creek, the town was chartered by the Kentucky Legislature on April 9, 1880. In the early years, it served as a trade center for the region; shipping a variety of produce and products down Caney Creek to the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. The population in 2020 was 529.
