Meade County Water District Breaks Ground on $10.2M Infrastructure Improvements Along KY 1638
A major step forward for rural water reliability is underway with the groundbreaking of the $10.2 million KY 1638 Phase 1 Water Infrastructure Project for the Meade County Water District and its Board of Directors. This transformative initiative is designed to deliver a more consistent, dependable water supply to more than 5,000 customers across rural Meade County, ensuring local families and businesses have the modern infrastructure they need for years to come.
Phase 1 focuses on reinforcing the backbone of the region’s water delivery system. Key improvements include:
- New Water Transmission Main: Expanding capacity and improving flow efficiency throughout the service area.
- New System Interconnect: Enhancing network resilience and providing vital backup capabilities.
- New Storage Tank: Increasing local storage capacity to meet daily demand and emergency needs.
- New Pump Station: Optimizing system pressure and delivery consistency across rural lines.
Together, these facilities address long-standing capacity constraints and create a stronger, more reliable distribution network.
The project was made possible in part to $2,130,756 in Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project Funding, which was supported by LTADD, along with other grant funding. This federal investment allows the district to execute critical capital improvements without placing the full financial burden on local ratepayers.
Access to safe, clean, and reliable water is the foundation of any thriving community. For the 5,000-plus households and local farms in rural Meade County, the KY 1638 Phase 1 project represents more than just pipes and pump stations, it represents peace of mind and room for future growth.
Work on Phase 1 is now underway. Stay tuned for further progress updates as construction advances.
