Partnership Update: Family Scholar House Reaches 50% Capacity as Demand Grows
The transformative vision of providing single-parent students with stable housing and academic support on the Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) campus is proving to be a great success. As construction nears the finish line, the overwhelming community response highlights the critical gap this project is actively filling for local families.
Family Scholar House recently reported that 24 of its 48 units are already leased reaching the 50% capacity mark before the entire campus is even fully complete. With an active waiting list already forming for the remaining apartments, this milestone clearly demonstrates the high demand for affordable housing paired with wraparound educational and family resources in Central Kentucky.
Site progress continues moving forward smoothly to meet this surging demand:
- Halfway Full: Families are already moved in and settled into Buildings 4, 5, and 6 following their completion earlier this year.
- Final Phase Ahead: Buildings 1 and 2 remain on schedule for completion in October as painters, masons, electricians, plumbers and other trades workers finish, which will unlock the remaining units and help clear the growing waitlist.
Reaching 50% occupancy so quickly proves that when you eliminate housing instability for student parents, you empower them to focus on earned degrees, career goals, and building financial independence for their children.
Filling a need of this scale takes dedicated intergovernmental teamwork. Funded in part by a $1 million Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) through HUD and administered by the Kentucky Department for Local Government, Hardin County Fiscal Court served as the competitive grantee on behalf of Family Scholar House and ECTC.
LTADD’s Community & Regional Economic Development (CRED) Division is proud to serve as the CDBG project administrator, handling federal compliance, financial oversight, and regional coordination to turn federal funding into real, life-changing local housing.
As we count down to full campus completion this October, LTADD remains committed to supporting our partners as they meet critical community needs and empower the next generation of student families.
