Cade Bowen Presents Stormwater Updates to Bullitt County Fiscal Court

Recently, LTADD Engineer Technician Cade Bowen presented Bullitt County Fiscal Court a comprehensive update on MS4 (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System) compliance measures.

Managing stormwater runoff is critical to preventing pollution, mitigating flooding, and protecting the beautiful natural waterways of Bullitt County. Cade’s presentation highlighted the vital, ongoing fieldwork and tracking metrics LTADD manages to ensure the county remains in excellent standing with its Kentucky Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (KPDES) permit.

Cade outlined the specific, proactive measures LTADD executes on behalf of the county to track, measure, and manage stormwater quality:

  • Erosion Prevention through Vigilant Inspections: Construction and land disturbance can lead to severe soil runoff if left unmonitored. LTADD actively tracks erosion prevention by conducting thorough, monthly site inspections across active areas in the county, ensuring proper silt fencing, ground cover, and containment measures are functioning correctly.
  • Proactive Stormwater Management via Outfall Screenings: To catch and isolate potential illicit discharges or pollutants before they enter local ecosystems, LTADD measures stormwater management through Major Outfall screenings.
  • Detention Basin Infrastructure Oversight: Detention basins play a large role in controlling the volume and velocity of stormwater runoff to prevent localized flooding. Cade updated the court on regular inspections of Detention Basins, ensuring these critical infrastructure pieces are clear of debris, structurally sound, and operating at peak capacity.

The technical data and boots-on-the-ground inspections provided by Cade do more than just check a box for state compliance, they directly protect Bullitt County’s infrastructure, property values, and environmental resources.
