Consumer Directed Options (CDO) gives Medicaid waiver members more choices in the way some Medicaid services are provided. With CDO an individual can choose who, when, how, and where non-medical services are to be provided. Individual may hire and supervise qualified family members, friends, relatives, neighbors, an agency or others to provide needed services. If an individual is unable to direct their own services a friend or family member can be appointed as representative to assist.

Eligibility: Individual must be Medicaid eligible and enrolled in one of the following Medicaid Waiver Programs:
  • Home and Community-Based (HCB) waiver provides respite, personal care, homemaking and attendant care for the elderly and people with disabilities.
  • Supports for Community Living (SCL) waiver provides community living supports, respite, adult day training and supported employment for persons with mental retardation/developmental disabilities.
  • Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) waiver provides companion care, respite and personal care for personas with acquired brain injury.
  • Michelle P. Waiver (MPW) provides community living supports, respite, homemaker service, personal care, and attendant care.
Cost: Individual may be responsible for a patient liability determined through Medicaid. Once approved for services, members work with a support broker and are assigned a budget through which the member can hire individuals and buy supplies.
