Caregivers of family members are generous and compassionate individuals who give a great deal of themselves to help their loved ones. While there are benefits in being a caregiver, these individuals often find themselves facing physical, emotional and financial difficulties due to taking on the caregiving role. Most find themselves in need of a break to rejuvenate themselves or take care of other obligations.

Caregivers dedicate, on average, 20 hours per week to provide care to their family members. The role of caregiving often takes a high toll on the emotional, physical and financial well-being of the caregiver.

The Family Caregiver Support Program assists eligible family caregivers by educating them about caregiving, informing them about available services in their communities, helping them to gain access to needed services, and supporting them throughout their caregiving experiences.

There are two groups of caregivers that are eligible for the services of the Family Caregiver Support Program:

  1. Family caregivers who provide unpaid care to individuals aged 60 and over.
  2. Grandparents, or other relatives aged 60 or over, who are the primary caregivers of related children aged 18 and under.
The Family Caregiver Support Program provides assistance to caregivers in Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin, Larue, Marion, Meade, Nelson and Washington Counties, as well as those who are out-of-state with relatives in the above counties.

The Family Caregiver Support Program supports family caregivers in a variety of ways:
